Rapid City West hit four home runs Saturday, however, it was Rapid City East that won the battle on the scoreboard, 20-7, in a high school game Saturday.
It was the first-ever game for West, while East is in its second year.
What do you think about high school baseball in Rapid City? How will it affect the legion teams? How will the high school teams fare this year?

Wyoming kept on rolling and capped the best season in school history with a 72-56 win over Wisconsin in the championship game of the WNIT.
The Cowgirls, who beat South Dakota State in the quarterfinals, ended the season with a 27-9 record.

Wyoming junior forward Hanna Zavecz had a big WNIT for the Cowgirls, scoring 104 points in wins over Nevada, Missouri, Oregon, SDSU, defending champion Kansas State and Wisconsin.

Caught this on ESPN’s E-ticket….. 1983…..Got the juices flowing, has it really  been that long!!!
What do you remember about the DUNKFEST??? The Ville vs. Phi Slama Jama… Benny Anders, Clyde “the Glide”, Guy Lewis and Akeem Olajumon taking on the McRay brothers (Scooter and Rodney), Milt Wagner and Lancaster Gordon, Denny Crum…
“Play it again Sam”…
Some great writing done by Robert Weintraub.

This might be one of the more refreshing stories of this or any season.
No it’s not about 120 million $$$$ over 10 years or a huge settlement, it’s about a guy living his dream playing in the Major Leagues while still collecting autographs and baseball cards.
Check out Pat Neshek’s, a middle reliever for the Minnesota Twins, blog at http://eteamz.active.com/patneshek/index.cfmÂ

It traces back to his days as a longshot prospect who was derided for his unorthodox, down-under delivery. Now he’s on the verge of becoming one of the American League’s best young relievers, after posting a 2.19 ERA and an 8.6-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his rookie season. The best part of Neshek’s blog? He’ll happily autograph any item you want if you mail it to him, and he loves to trade baseball and hockey cards.Â
Unique or nerdy, pretty refreshing if you ask me!!!Â

The NFL Draft is just around the corner. Who’s going to be the No. 1 overall pick? Â
Â
“All Day” Adrian Peterson shows his stuff at the NFL Combine. Where will he land? Â
Is the combine overated??? Will the Giants and Jets fans boo at thier teams’s selection? Who is trading up or down? Â
For those of you that want fooball 24-7 the draft helps break up the post Super Bowl letdown.
Who will be this year’s Mario Williams or Reggie Busch?Â

The two most beautiful words in all of sports are about to be spoken once again come Sunday.
“PLAY BALL”
Yes baseball is back!!! With it’s grass manicured to perfection, the stadiums all shined up and pimped out and the thrill of waking up to boxscores in your morning paper…
Nope….There is nothing quite like opening day.Â
The look on a youngsters face as he or she takes in their first big league game with their dad.
Whether you are there live, listening to the radio or catching the game on HDTV, it’s all good…
Your team is tied in the standings with everbody else, 0-0. 162 games to go. Hopes and dreams spring eternal because deep down you know this will be the year.    Â
If those hot shot rookies can only play and that grizzled old veteran can saddle it up one more time and your manager can spread a little magic dust in the clubhouse you’ve got a chance.   Â
27 outs later your team is now 0-1… What happened? If only we could have scored a run, gotten a hit, made a play…
Oh well there is always next year!!!   Â
So get out and take in a game… From a Little League game in your town  or a vacation spent hitting as many big league parks as you can… Play Ball!!!Â

The first MLB game of the season is on Sunday night. It will be an intesting season, but perhaps not as interesting as last year.
Did you know that the last season’s AL MVP (Minnesota’s Justin Morneau) and NL MVP (Philadelphia’s Ryan Howard) had a combined salary of less than $740,000, with Morneau making $385K and Howard getting $355K. That’s not very much money, considering the duo combined for 92 home runs, 279 RBIs and a .317 batting average (372-for-1,173).
That’s a lot of bang for the buck. How’d A-Rod do last year?
The Minnesota Twins’ Justin Morneau batted .327 (190-for-592) while hitting 34 home runs and recording 130 RBIs during his AL MVP season in 2006.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ Ryan Howard batted .313 (182-for-581) while hitting a MLB-leading 58 home runs and recording a MLB-leading 149 RBIs during his NL MVP season in 2006.

So what’s the deal with women’s basketball not having a 10-second backcourt rule? Are you kidding me? They have it at every other level, but not in college.
It makes for some interesting finishes, when you don’t even need to get the ball past court to run out a shotclock.

Big question to ponder during the upcoming weeks, will Texas’ Kevin Durant (the AP POY) and Ohio State’s Greg Oden be back for their sophomore years or will they go to the NBA.
If Oden wins the national title, he almost has to go pro doesn’t he?

Texas’ Kevin Durant, this year’s AP POY and a unanimous first-team All-American as a freshman
Â

Ohio State’s Greg Oden. He and the Buckeyes are heading to the Final Four during his freshman campaign.
