Wow, looks great. Those stuffs and goodies are simply amazing. Thanks for posting your thoughts and experiences as a piano teacher with a golden heart and extreme passion for music and teaching. Well, I guess you had a great time grabbing those opportunities to enjoy like and had fun - all for a good cause. Music teachers like us need quality time to relax and have a good break. Recharging our batteries can enable us to think better and be at our best the next time we meet and teach our dear students. You’ve got a very nice and interesting post here, my friend. I always feel glad whenever I encounter people who have the same passion and love for music like what I actually have. I also admire your efforts to share your bright ideas on music education - lending a hand to make a difference, helping communities and organizations to come up with great and unique activities or events for a good cause. I wasn’t sure where to put this information, but I will try here. Thank you for allowing me to give a brief description of goals, philosophy and myself. Please edit if you wish.

Hello. I am new to the Black Hills area and I would like to give piano lessons to both children and adults on Saturdays.

My primary goal of teaching is to make learning to play the piano engaging, fulfilling and fun. It is an opportunity to enhance and expand other life skills: good communication, patience, confidence, and joy. I also believe that students should learn with proven, research-based methods designed so that they are able to reach their own goals.

My philosophy is that learning is a lifelong endeavor and when we learn that which causes enjoyment and fulfillment we become well-rounded individuals who are capable of building healthy relationships and contributing to our communities.

To accomplish this I draw upon what I know about learners, both children and adults. As a former piano teacher, classroom teacher (K-12), and university instructor, I know the importance of each lesson meeting the needs of the individual student. Together, the student and I will determine the best course of study and jointly pursue it. It is essential for me to discover what the students’ interests are and what they wish to learn. During each lesson I pay close attention to my students to ensure that what we are doing is understandable and clear while meeting their needs.

I hold a Master’s of Science in Guidance and Counseling and an Agency Trainer Certification for the Center for Cognitive Coaching. I have had extensive training in learning styles and personality traits. Utilizing my education with my experience helps me to create an optimal learning environment.

Thanks for your post! I appreciate your sharing some ideas and points on how we all can be better piano players in our own little ways - even through practicing playing the piano on a regular basis. I agree when you say that piano lessons and learning have to be put into consistent practice. Also, our dear students can make wonderful improvements and upgrades on their piano skills and expertise. Mornings are the best and the greatest times to practice acquired learning and skills since our minds are a lot fresher, clearer and enthusiastic. We may not be award-winning piano players; what important is - we achieve real happiness because of what we simply do. Thanks again for keeping us posted with your useful piano teaching resources.

And as a professional Las Vegas entertainer, I just wanted to say that I especially enjoy reading the Piano Blog. Keep up the good work and best of luck to all of you.

I’m a Rapid City native and I’ve come a long way from my early days at Rapid Valley Elementary.

By the way, I thank my mother all the time for making me practice and for taking those piano lessons!!! And now, my son, on his way to becoming a drummer, is taking piano lessons… Ciao for now…
