Are The Dead Lonely?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

When I sit and ponder the idea that at some point in time, I will indeed shed these mortal coils, I often wonder if it’s a joyous occasion, or something nightmares are made of.

As stated (most controversially) in my last blog, I do feel there is some “down-time” for the human spirit upon initial death.  Is this “down-time” a quiet oasis of peace spent within the confines of a burial vault?  Or is this time used for exploring the earth in an unlimited form allowing us to travel space and time at the blink of an eye?  My experiences tell me it is the latter.  I can only wonder, is it lonely?  Will I be ”going at it alone”?

A former member of our forum who has an incredible resume regarding spirit communication through EVP’s had a quote she used I just loved.  It went something like this:  “During an EVP session I asked, ’How many of you are there here?’ – a voice responded saying, ‘There are millions of us’.”  Doesn’t sound so lonely to me.  After all, if we consider the current population of the earth, estimated at 6.8 billion, it seems mind-boggling to consider the billions upon billions that have gone on before us in death.  According to the Population Reference Bureau (prb.org), it is estimated that there have been as many as 106 Billion people who have, at some time and place, inhabited the earth through time.  Now that is a lot of spirits to mingle with!

The question came up in my mind upon our last investigation of a private residence where it appeared, through an EVP session, that there was a conversation going on between two people.  I hadn’t heard this in any previous investigations and found it quite thought provoking.  What are they talking about?  What are they doing?  Does someone who passed away last week have the capability to converse with a soul from the dark ages?  Intruiging to consider, isn’t it?  I find it all very perplexing…and very exciting.

What about children?  What about evil-doers and “lost souls”?  Are they banished?  Do they mingle amongst the “general population”?  Are they placed in “spiritual holding cells” created by other people in spirit or possibly the Creator?  There’s one thing I can say for certain…”they” are here.  I’ve heard them with my own two ears.  It makes my line of thinking and questioning such things seem a little less like lunacy when I consider this fact.

Given the theory that there may be as many as 106 billion people in spirit form, I don’t think that sounds like a recipe for lonesomeness.  Your chances for meeting someone you find interesting are fifteen times better!  I can only wonder:  Can we travel to different planets in spirit form?  Seems to me that with 106 billion other folks around, we’re going to be doing a lot of shoulder-rubbing on this little planet!

Just another of my random ramblings, but an interesting consideration to explore nonetheless!

The Black Hills: A Haven Of Paranormal Potential

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

It is no secret that those of us lucky enough to call the Black Hills “home” consider the area to be one of the most beautiful in the United States.  Gigantic, pine-covered canyons; amazingly clear streams and lakes full of sport fish; alien-like landscapes stretched across the Badlands; vast prairies farther than the eye can see, swaying like waves of the ocean in the wind; rock formations which seem impossible; a host of wildlife many Americans have only seen on the National Geographic Channel.  No question about it, we are a fortunate group of the population privy to experience such natural wonder.

As a paranormal investigator and history buff, I must say that we are also fortunate to be part of an area so rich in history.  It is difficult to travel anywhere around the Black Hills without realizing the colorful history of days gone before.  Whether it’s the simple brick-laden streets of Deadwood where Wild Bill Hickok held his last hand of cards or the bloody battlefield of Wounded Knee where over 200 Native Americans lost their lives, South Dakota is a cornucopia of tragedy, history and important events of our past.  Naturally, this presents an interesting and exciting playing field for the paranormal investigator…the potential for paranormal activity in this amazing land is endless.

Rapid City itself has a rich history full of triumph and tragedy.  Many buildings still standing would speak volumes if their many walls could share their stories.  The Hotel Alex Johnson, The Elks Theatre, Hooky Jacks and many more historical buildings carry the reputation of being “haunted” (I don’t like the word “haunted”, I prefer “paranormally active”).  We have experienced first hand that some of these buildings still do “speak”.  In the heart of downtown Rapid City, we have captured amazing evidence of paranormal activity.  What does the rest of this amazing area offer to the paranormal investigator?  I can’t wait to find out!

That being said, I’d be interested in hearing the readers’ paranormal experiences in different locations around the state.  If you’ve got a story to share regarding an experience you may have had in this amazing western front, do share!  If you’d like to discuss any areas, buildings or anything else you have heard was “haunted” please feel free to leave a comment here on the blog.  I look forward to hearing from the readers!

‘Til next time…
