Rally Concerts

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Ryan Woodard

It looks like the lineups for this year’s Sturgis motorcycle rally are set. Any thoughts on which concerts you might be attending? Which venue do you think has the best lineup? Who’s the best individual act at this year’s rally?

Change of plans

Synthetic Discipline’s rally performance date has been changed. They’re now opening for… wait for it… Eddie Money. And Zwarte. It’s Thursday, Aug. 9.

That’s, um, an unusual lineup right there.

If you aren’t super-excited about that show, Synthetic Discipline’s next show will be 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Imperial Inn, Rapid City. Also playing are Black as Sin, Emissary, Dorment Plague and Leetch, none of which are ’80s has-beens. Admission is $5 all ages.

Free Aaron Lewis tickets for active-duty military

Friday, July 27th, 2007

By Ruth Milne

This just in:

“The management of Aaron Lewis of Staind has requested that we make free tickets available to all active military personnel. This will affect all Air Force, National Guard, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard personnel now serving. One ticket per military ID is authorized.”

The tickets for Lewis’ intimate, acoustic solo show, during which he will take requests, are available at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center box office on July 28 only.

Military personnel who have already purchased a ticket may get another one free with military ID, the release said.

Aaron Lewis

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28. For more on the show, and whether or not Aaron Lewis is going to play “Freebird,” check out blogmate Ryan Woodard’s highly entertaining story in today’s paper and online.

Godsmack tickets on sale tomorrow

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Ruth Milne

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. EST Friday, July 27, for Godsmack’s rally performance. Showtime is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Rock’N the Rally, Glencoe Camp Resort, Sturgis.

Lip Smackers

This isn’t just any old concert; it’ll be Godsmack’s 10th anniversary live concert DVD shoot, with performances by Ted Nugent and Fuel.

Tickets cost $45 and are available at www.starticketsplus.com, 1-800-585-3737, at the gate and at various area ticket outlets.

We all know why this particular show is a big deal, right? (No, it’s not about The Nuge.) Our very own Synthetic Discipline is the opening act.

Indie show tonight

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Ruth Milne

The headliner is We All Have Hooks for Hands, a Sioux Falls band I’ve blogged about once or twice — it’s a ridiculously fun group with nine members, including two drummers and a fiddle. Always a great show.

Other acts include Mouthful of Bees, which I’m sure isn’t as unpleasant as the name sounds, as well as Clocks Ticking Backwards, Rejouissance and local artsy guys From the Muses of Mt. Helicon.

The show starts at 7 p.m. in the theater at Dahl Arts Center (nonsmoking, alcohol-free; no outside food or drinks allowed). Admission is $6 all ages.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it to this show, but if you can, it should be a good one.
