TALKING ABOUT “GIFTS”

I don’t know why this came to me and stayed with me.  It is kind of another example of  ”He gives me the words to say when I have nothing to say”.  I do believe He gives me the words when I have nothing  to say.  I believe He gives me the words all the time when I am open to His words!

Today, I would like to touch on GIFTS from ABOVE for Seniors after they have retired from their lifetime work .  We, Seniors, often times think that is the end of our accomplishing something.  I beg to differ!  God gives each of us gifts and they are with us since birth.  Some, we use and recognize in the expanse of our lives.  Other GIFTS  we may not recognize in ourselves, being with us all of our lives.  Others may see them in us.

You ask, “What are God-given gifts?”  Perhaps, in your childhood, you were a whiz at sports and this gift answered your childhood dreams.  It is still something you excell at, but doesn’t go beyond those childhood years.  Then, you get educated in one way or other in a worthwhile endeavor that becomes your life’s work.  It doesn’t matter if you, in this work, was an under or over achiever, you know you did your best.  You know life was good, despite set-backs.  However, that WORK was not your only GIFT.    Let’s say, for example, you have a wonderful PERSONALITY that keeps others UP WHEN THEY COULD BE DOWN.  Or, let’s say you discovered that your PERSONALITY GIFT  brought smiles to everyone whose lives you touched.

Do you call this wonderful personality a gift from God?  Of course you don’t, because you are humble and generous with your compliments to others, but we who touch your life know God gave you this wonderful GIFT.  As Seniors, we need to look at our options to find more gifts.  Hobbies are gifts.  There are many gifts available to us.  Do a little research.  You will see that in the hobby you choose because you love doing it.  This GIFT gave your life more meaning.  As a Senior myself, I enjoy writing these blogs, especially when I can write about God’s Gifts, as you have them, and encourage you.

If you are a Senior, who is feeling a certain amount of self criticism, such as saying, “I just can’t do anything!”  STOP RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE!  Think of what you would like to do best.  Then search for those who can help you with it.  Just because you are a Senior do not think it is all over.  I have found in my life that if I can talk to someone who has been there,  I am amazed at the constructive advice I have received in all my efforts.  I like to think I have more gifts and if I ever become pessimistic, I will turn to my family, husband and children.  They are honest with me because they love me.  So too, does your family love you and would help with your wanted endeavor.

You can raise yourself up and achieve.  It doesn’t have to be a great job.  Draw from your inner abilities and you will find what you are looking for.   You are undoubtedly,  more gifted than spending hours and hours on your computer, though you can find answers there too.

And then, a little prayer would go far too.  God is listening to you and your needs.  I wish you happiness in these, your Senior years!  Peace!
