Are restaurants bound for Rushmore Crossing?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

00rushmoreI was scouring the Internet today, and came across this Rushmore Crossing proposed merchandising plan, on the McDonald Properties Web site. It looks relatively old, at least compared to the Katz & Associates map released this March.

The maps don’t align perfectly, but I was interested to see the restaurants that appeared to in the works to sign a letter of intent.

- Qdoba Mexican Grill
- CiCi’s Pizza Buffet (although the Katz map puts Mens Wearhouse there)
- Shari’s Restaurant
- Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery

I was particularly intrigued by the last two. I’ve never heard of them before.

Anyway, take a look and see what you think.

Downtown to get grocery store?

Monday, July 20th, 2009

I haven’t made any calls on this,  yet. But this could mean Rapid City’s downtown could get some sort of grocery store with malt liquor sales.

The address is the same as the Body Builder Christian Bookstore that is going out of business.

Here’s the off-sale malt beverage license application before on tonight’s city council agenda:

Matthew J. Batchelder DBA Windsor Block Grocery Co., 610 7th Street for a Package (off-sale) Malt Beverage License

Having some sort of grocery/drug store within walking distance could make life a lot easier for those living downtown.

What do you think?

Buffalo Wild Wings confirmed for Baken Park

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

buffalo1

We’ve been waiting a while to confirm this one. But it’s real, folks.

Buffalo Wild Wings is headed for Rapid City.

The sports-themed, fast-casual restaurant is slated for an empty spot in the Baken Park shopping center. It will include a patio, according to documents filed with the city.

The restaurant, which is applying for an alcohol permit, will fill a hole in the strip mall between Pet Paradise and French Cleaners.

Buffalo Wild Wings is a Minneapolis-based chain of bar and grills that serves chicken wings doused in a variety of sauces.

The Rapid City Planning Commission will consider the restaurant’s on-sale liquor establishment conditional use permit at its July 23 meeting.

A representative of BDUBS LLC recently applied for the city conditional use permit. According to state filings, Matt Benne is the registered agent for that firm, which was incorporated with the state in May.

An attempt to speak by telephone with Benne through Sam Benne of First American Title Company, was unsuccessful. A call to Jeremy Nelson, project manager for the construction with CMA in Minneapolis, wasn’t returned.

Road construction closing Rushmore Waterslide Park? No.

front_monkeyCommenter ‘Josie’ says:

My understanding is that the slides are closing due to the new construction of Catron to meet up with Hwy 16 that would basically put a side street through some of that property. I heard this from some one who heard this and the chain goes on.

I just got off the phone with Gary Engel, engineer with the Rapid City office of the state Department of Transportation. He says he’s not aware of any plan for that intersection that would shut down Rushmore Waterslide Park or require purchase of that land.

Call that rumor ‘busted.’

Cajun Cafe: What happened?

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Commenter ‘Chad’ asks:

The Cajun Cafe at the mall has been closed for a couple of months now, but any word on why they went out of business. Did they get shutdown? Rent increase? Move?? My wife and I really liked their cajun chicken. Thank You

I’m not familar with the fate of the Cajun Cafe.

Does anyone out there know?

Murphy’s closes — but isn’t foreclosed

Monday, June 1st, 2009

murphys-signMurphy’s Pub in downtown Rapid City shut its doors last week. A sign on the store said it would reopen under new management.

Still true, says a reliable source.

Despite rumors and a media report to the contrary (he says), the pub is not bankrupt and there’s no foreclosure.

Murphy’s isn’t under new management yet, but it should be shortly. Say, within a week.

Keep it right here — I’ll tell you what I know when I know it.

What happened to Liberty Plaza?

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Commenter ‘Ryan’ has a question:

do you know what happened to the strip mall that was supposed to be built in Box Elder on Liberty Blvd. The sign is still up and I think it is actually called Liberty Plaza.

I’ll admit, I don’t get out to Box Elder all to often, and frankly, I don’t have the answer to that. I can do some work on it, but I thought I’d throw it out there.

Does anyone know what’s happening with Liberty Plaza?

The word: Wal-mart picks 5th and Catron site — UPDATED:Wal-Mart says no purchase yet

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

walmartBy Jeremy Fugleberg

Don’t look now, but word is rolling in Wal-Mart has finalized a deal for a new store in south Rapid City.

The site is at the corner of 5th Street and Catron Boulevard.

I’m still working on confirmation, but apparently Wal-Mart representatives confirmed the news at a recent meeting with contractors.

They also apparently didn’t want it to hit the media too quickly.

Good luck with that.

I’ve got calls in to confirm.

UPDATED: Wal-Mart spokesman Josh Phair says via e-mail:

Jeremy -

Sorry for the delay, I’m traveling and just got your message. We have not purchased any land for our Rapid City project; the status of the project has not changed since we last spoke. Thanks.

Josh

Also, Mayor Alan Hanks returned my call this morning to say he hasn’t heard from Wal-Mart that they’ve picked a site.

Khoury’s to move next to Ichiban

A very reliable source (thanks SLW) says Khoury’s Mediterranean Cuisine is moving from their location at 2520 West Main.

The restaurant will move to the old Chester’s Chicken spot next to Ichiban Sushi Bar in the 1100 block of West Omaha. I can’t remember the name of that strip mall at the moment.

What do you think of that move?

Who takes the Target spot in the Rushmore Mall?

Commenter ‘mall worker’ says:

What happened to Runnings going in the mall? When I was in Runnings last month they said that they were waiting for a rezoning request to put all of their “outdoor” merchandise outside of the store like they currently do. They werent too optimistic with our wonderful city’s track record of making things as hard as they can for growth. As a mall tenant DRAMATICALLY affected by the closure of Target, it would be nice to know what’s going on. The mall, of course, can’t comment.
Also anything about Dick’s sporting goods?

I haven’t heard a peep about Dick’s, and the last rumble I heard about Runnings in the mall was that their attempt at a deal was breaking down. But I’m not sure how solid that information is.

Definitly worth some renewed research on my part.

Anybody else heard anything?
